To Blog or Not to Blog, Revisited.

It seems that I am not a very good blogger. Here's the problem: I am a lazy blogger, I have issues with the computer (I don't like spending a lot of time on it), and I have a hard time believing people are even reading my blog. I'm just not sure this relationship is working...I think we might be breaking up.

The thing that makes we want to stick with it is that I have good blogging ideas all the time! Sometimes when I can't sleep I think up the content of my next (alleged) blog post with a snappy title and everything. But I NEVER end up writing the post. I mean, I had a middle of the night post called 'Ode to Jellies' all about the jelly shoes of my childhood and how I want to assist in bringing them back into coolness. I've had posts about Jackson and the crazy things he says. Posts about donuts...lots of posts about donuts. But somewhere there is a disconnect from my head to my computer.

If I had a secretary that would solve a lot of problems. I think a lot of it is that when I have time to do something for myself the last thing I want to do is be sitting at my computer. If I had a secretary I would dictate my blog posts while I washed the dishes.

The other problem is I don't know who my readership is. And I believe one of the first rules about writing is 'know your audience". That makes blogging especially tough for me.

So, here's what I'm asking of you. If you read my blog and you like to read it, leave a comment. It's ironic that I'm asking for comments because I typically dislike them (my argument being why wouldn't you just email me?) but in this case comments are my friend. Just let me know you're still reading. Otherwise, we're through.

  2. Margaret dear, you are 8 plus months pregnant.....give yourself a break. Everything in life takes energy....i think you need to ask yourself the question "WHY do i want to blog?" It seems to me just another creative way that you express yourself and your life. I happen to love it....and I don't just read anyone's blogs....love ya

  4. Margaret, I look forward to reading your blog!! As a matter of fact, I check it every day hoping for a new post. It helps me to know a little bit more about what's going on in your life and that's very important to me. I love hearing about what's on your mind and in your day. Please don't stop!!! You could take a break, while you're waiting for the baby, and then resume when you're ready. I want to hear about those jelly shoes!!

  5. Hi Maggie Lew,
I have to say that I do look at your blog every morning when I get to work...it's my new ritual, to look at friends blogs and miss them:) And I think that your writing deserves to be written and read! For writings sake! However, that being said, I understand your dilemma. So, what I would propose is that if this whole blogging thing doesn't suit you at this point in your life, I think that we should become steady pen pals instead! (sorry everyone else who wants to read Margaret's writing, I'm being selfish here!) I would commit to reading all of your thoughts and sharing my own...we could even do it in the age old tradition of the written word! But again, I fully support the blogging, I think you are doing a great job, even if all of your thoughts don't get put down on "e-paper", you are still processing it just by thinking about your alleged blog posts!:) so, that's my two cents friend:)

  14. Hi Margaret,
I have loved reading all of your blogs and wait for new ones with anticipation. If however the blog thing is too overwhelming, why not do Facebook? You can just write little blips of daily life instead of short stories. Maybe that would be more manageable at this stage of your life.

  15. Hi Margaret.
While we were canoeing, two guys drove by on a powerboat and they were both wearing big dark sunglasses. About ten seconds later when the quiet paddling resumed, Andrew started saying, "raccoon, raccoon" several times and I tried to figure out what made him think about raccoons and I realized it was the sunglasses. What's the kid thinking, "Hey, mom and dad, did two raccoons just drive by on a boat?"
So send us stuff like that on your blog that Jackson says.
